OVERVIEW
ABOUT US
In 1985, Rev. M. Moran Weston, PhD. and distinguished
leaders of Harlem Hospital and St. Philips Church founded
Weston United, a not-for-profit 501 (C) (3) organization.
Their vision to provide housing and services to enhance the
lives of the most disenfranchised in our community: those
who are homeless and suffer mental and physical
disabilities. Weston United has grown to become an award
winning social service organization based in Harlem which
for over two decades has been a positive force in the lives
of its consumers and their families. Today, Weston United
provides services for over 1000 individuals in New York
City, employs 150, and manages a budget of over $12
million, including City, State and Federal support. We
combat homelessness through 24 hour housing services in
our 4 apartment buildings and rented apartments located
in Harlem, Washington Heights and the Bronx. We help
families and individuals with HIV/AIDS locate permanent
housing. Our outreach teams of professionals provide
treatment and services to people wherever they live.
Weston United consumers improve their lives in our
innovative employment programs which include training in
our 2 clubhouses and employment in our Visionary
Bookstore and Gallery M. We are pursuing expansion both
geographically and to providing services to children and the
elderly.

STATEMENT FROM BOARD OF DIRECTORS PRESIDENT MAX NUTI
Homelessness and mental illness are plights that do not
discriminate between gender, age, race, educational
background, or income bracket. Everyone can be a potential
victim. Some of us are fortunate enough to have a safety
net of friends and family, while others are able to juggle the
daily hardships of life. But when that safety net is frayed or
the juggling act is interrupted by a distorted perception of
reality, for all too many the path to homelessness is quick
and unforgiving. A bout of depression, a missed paycheck, a
doctors bill, a car that will not start can all precipitate a
domino effect leading to termination of employment, a loss
of income, a loss of shelter and ultimately a loss of dignity.
With the worsening housing affordability in NYC we are
currently in the midst of a crisis of historic proportions in
homelessness and it is only getting worse. As a result, the
services provided by Weston United are now more critical
than ever. While Weston does provide shelter and
treatment for the disenfranchised, mentally ill and physically
disabled, the most important and rewarding aspect of our
mission is the ability to empower those same individuals to
break the cycle of poverty and despair that has shaped
their lives in the past.
